Just a few things to know:

Thursday, August 28th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Ice Cream Social at Ray to welcome new families (all of kindergarten is invited). This will take part on the Kenwood side of the school (back/south playground). This is the opportunity for Room 104 families to get to meet me. I am very much looking forward to this and getting to meet my students and families before the school year starts. If you know any other kindergarten families, let them know about the ice cream social.

Ray eNews – The PTA sends out a wonderful newsletter weekly through email. This newsletter is a great place to get the information you need. Just go to the Ray School website (http://www.ray.cps.k12.il.us) and scroll to the bottom. Then all you need to do is enter your email address.

Please take a little bit of time to browse through my blog. You will see the supply list and learn a little more about me. Also remember to subscribe to my blog. On the bottom you will see a follow button. Scroll over it and a place to enter your email will pop up. Once subscribed an email will come to you every time I post. I strongly encourage all Room 104 families to subscribe.

School starts Tuesday, September 2nd at 8:45 am promptly. Students are to line up on the north playground at the spot marked 104. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Ice Cream Social on Thursday. Remember to let other kindergarten families know about the event and please let them know about the classroom blogs as well.

Welcome to Room 104! This is going to be a very exciting year.

Here is a little background on me:

I grew up in the suburbs, but after moving to Chicago I realized I am really more of a city girl.

I graduated from National-Louis University with a degree in Elementary Education. In May 2011, I completed my master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago to become a Reading Specialist. I am currently taking the classes required to get an endorsement in English as a Second Language, which will be completed in May!

After working one year in the suburbs I came to CPS and have been here ever since. My experience includes teaching kindergarten, second grade, and fifth grade. I have also been an aide and substitute. My CPS experience includes Blaine Elementary, Bell Elementary, and The Nettelhorst School. This will be my third year teaching kindergarten at Ray and I truly love and enjoy it.

During my free time I love to read, exercise, travel (Last winter break I went to South Africa. The students love looking at the pictures of the animals I saw while on safari and the penguins on a beach near Cape Town.), go to the movies, go to restaurants, go to museums, and I have recently taken up cooking. In April 2013, I welcomed an english bulldog puppy into my life that I named Stella. She is a great dog and we spend lots of time on walks, going to the dog park, and just hanging out around the apartment. My students love to hear the stories about how loud Stella snores and the new milestones she hits. Because she is too cute to pass up, below is a picture of Stella from her first birthday in January 2014. Clearly she was not a fan of the hat.

I post newsletters weekly and updates and reminders as necessary. I suggest you also check the pages on the top often as they are frequently updated. At the bottom of the blog you will see a follow button. Please click on that and enter your email address to subscribe. Once that is done you will receive an email every time I make a post. I encourage all Room 104 families to subscribe.

Our excellent kindergarten team will be working hard all year to meet the needs of all students.
