Room 104 Families,

Sight Word: four   *review last week sight words

    Previous Sight Words: I, am, like, a, can, see, the, is, here, and, to, be, my, are, have, we, on, in, look, big, little, come, go, at, run, said, it, up, you, me, one, two, three, of, his, her, for, with, will, day

    We do numerous activities with these words throughout the week. We will also learn sight word songs.

Letter of the Week: Ii

    Previous Letters: Ll, Aa, Ff, Tt, Pp, Bb, Ss, Cc, Nn, Gg, Ee, Xx, Yy, Mm, Rr, Ww

    Remember to have your child cut out images from the newspaper or magazines that begin with our letter of the week so we can make our letter book.

   Morning Meeting:

  • This week students will do the Skip Dice Greeting, Mitten poem shared reading Activity, and students will share their favorite winter food and why.

Literacy/Literacy Centers:

  • What we will be doing at centers this week:

    • Teacher Time – Guided Reading

    • Word Work – Rainbow Words, Read Around the Room, Word Family Sort, Word Family Eggs

    • Listening – Listen to The Mitten then write a sentence and draw a picture of something that happened in the story

    • Writing -Students will pick from the topic cards and use those to help them write

    • Computer – Starfall

    • Read to Self and Read to Someone – Find/identify sight words

  • Practice writing upper and lowercase Ii

  • List words that begin with short /i/ and long /i/

  • Long /i/ and short /i/ sort

  • Read the book Turtle Splash and do a cause/effect activity

Math:

  • Snowman Measuring

  • Mitten Measuring

  • Roll and Record

  • Mitten Patterning

  • Patterns with Craft Sticks

  • ST Math

  • Math Journals

  • Math Survey

Theme (Science/Social Studies): Jan Brett and Winter

  • Read The Mitten and list the characters

  • Read The Hat and list the character

  • Complete a venn diagram comparing and contrasting the characters in The Mitten and The Hat

  • Read Snowy Day then sequence the story

  • Snowman Glyph

Writing:

  • Students will write the beginning, middle, and end of The Mitten

  • Students will write the beginning, middle, and end of The Hat

  • Write sentences using the question words, “what,” “where,” and “who.” Students must make sure to draw a corresponding picture to their sentence

Things to Know:

  • Please check regularly and use the Things To Be Working On At Home link to above.

  • Scholastic Book Orders have been placed and should be arriving shortly. The next set of fliers will be sent home soon and the order is due Friday, February 21st.

  • There is no school on Wednesday, February 12th in observance of Lincoln’s Birthday.

  • As of now it looks like our 100th Day of School and Valentine’s Day are going to fall on the same day. Look for information about both to come home this week.

  • Continue working with ST math/JiJi. The students are doing a great job. Email me with any questions.

  • Email me if you would like to know your child’s math dibels scores. If I requested a conference on the report card please contact me as soon as possible to arrange that.

  • Remember that it is very important that students can independently put their outside gear on. Please practice if they are unable to. Also, remember to label everything.

  • Library books are due every Tuesday.

  • If you would like to volunteer in the classroom just let me know. The most needed time is literacy centers, but volunteers are welcomed at all other times of the school day. If you would like to work something out regularly or just every once in a while, let me know. We would love to have you!
