Room 104 Families,

Sight Word: with, will, day

    Previous Sight Words: I, am, like, a, can, see, the, is, here, and, to, be, my, are, have, we, on, in, look, big, little, come, go, at, run, said, it, up, you, me, one, two, three, of, his, her, for

    We do numerous activities with these words throughout the week. We will also learn sight word songs.

Letter of the Week: Ww

    Previous Letters: Ll, Aa, Ff, Tt, Pp, Bb, Ss, Cc, Nn, Gg, Ee, Xx, Yy, Mm, Rr

    Remember to have your child cut out images from the newspaper or magazines that begin with our letter of the week so we can make our letter book.

   Morning Meeting:

  • This week students will do the Skip Dice Greeting, Guess the Mystery Voice Activity, and students will share their family snowman project on their sharing day, schedule linked above.

Literacy/Literacy Centers:

  • What we will be doing at centers this week:

    • Teacher Time – I will be finishing dibels (so close to done!) – results will be sent home this week

    • Word Work – Rainbow Words, Read Around the Room, Rhyming House Word Families, Word Family Eggs

    • Listening – Listen to The Mitten then draw a picture of an animal from the book and write about it

    • Writing -Students will pick from the topic cards and use those to help them write

    • Computer – Starfall

    • Read to Self and Read to Someone – Find/identify sight words

  • Practice writing upper and lowercase Ww

  • List words that begin with /w/

  • Read Snowy Day then sequence the events

  • Read a book about Chinese New Year called Lion Dancer

  • Complete the predictable sentence: “I will wear my ___________ with my ___________.”

  • Practice our Who Let the Letters Out? song. It is linked on The Things to Work on at Home page above

Math:

  • Snowman Measuring

  • Mitten Measuring

  • Roll and Record

  • Mitten Patterning

  • Patterns with Craft Sticks

  • Read It’s Groundhog Day and graph our Groundhog Day predictions

  • ST Math

  • Math Journals

  • Math Survey

Theme (Science/Social Studies): Jan Brett and Winter

  • Read The Mitten and list the characters

  • Read The Hat and list the character

  • Complete a venn diagram comparing and contrasting the characters in The Mitten and The Hat

  • Read The Jacket I Wear In The Snow then cut out and glue on all the winter clothes in order on a paper person

  • Snowman Glyph

Writing:

  • Students will write the beginning, middle, and end of The Mitten

  • Students will write the beginning, middle, and end of The Hat

  • Write a first, then, next, last on the steps of sledding

  • Independent Journal

  • Respond to the book Froggy Gets Dressed

Things to Know:

  • Please check regularly and use the Things To Be Working On At Home link to above.

  • Scholastic Book Order are due January 31st

  • Snowman Family Project is due Monday, January 27th

  • Continue working with ST math/JiJi. The students are doing a great job. Email me with any questions.

  • Second quarter report cards are being sent home Thursday, January 30th. I will be requesting conferences for some of the students. If you would like to request a conference after seeing the report card send me an email.

  • The students will be attending a Chinese New Year assembly on Wednesday

  • Remember that it is very important that students can independently put their outside gear on. Please practice if they are unable to. Also, remember to label everything.

  • Library books are due every Tuesday.

  • If you would like to volunteer in the classroom just let me know. The most needed time is literacy centers, but volunteers are welcomed at all other times of the school day. If you would like to work something out regularly or just every once in a while, let me know. We would love to have you!
