I am asking that each child collect leaves and bring them to school in a plastic bag on Monday or Tuesday. We will be using these leaves for our rubbings and graphing/sorting.

Sight Words: in, look

Previous Sight Words: I, am, like, a, can, see, the, is, here, and, to, be, my, are, have, we, on

We will use and write them in sentences. We will also learn sight word songs.

Letter of the Week: Cc

Previous Letters: Ll, Aa, Ff, Tt, Pp, Bb, Ss

Remember to have your child cut out images from the newspaper or magazines that begin with our letter of the week so we can make our letter book throughout the week.

Morning Meeting:

  • This week students will do the Greet Five People in Spanish Greeting (Hola), Toss a Sight Word Activity, and Share Anything You Want Sharing.

Literacy/Literacy Centers:

  • What we will be doing at centers this week:

    • Teacher Time – Guided Reading

    • Word Work – Rainbow Writing, Read Around the Room, Letter C Phonics Activities, First Sound Activity

    • Writing – My Favorite Food and My Favorite Sport

    • Computer – Starfall

    • Read to Self and Read to Someone – Students are focusing on finding sight words when reading

    • Listen to Reading – Listen to The Stray Dog then draw a picture of the story and write a sentence about the story

  • Complete the predictable sentence of “Look at the  _______ leaf.” to be filled in with a color word. Students will be given a paper and have to fill in certain words from the sentence. So far all of these predictable sentences have been made into wonderful class books that the students love reading

  • List words that begin with /c/

  • Practice writing uppercase and lowercase /c/

  • We will complete many close reading activities with the book, When The Leaf Blew In. We will look at cause and effect in the story, characters, and sequence.

  • Initial sound sort of /s/ and /c/.

  • Listen to read alouds and participate in class discussions

  • Students will be continue to independent journal this week. We will use our how to make a wow picture and what writers do anchor charts and our list of topics to write/draw about. This week students will continue labeling around 5 details in their pictures. Students are encouraged to draw very detailed pictures. All students will be encouraged to draw pictures dealing with our sight words so they can use those words in sentences.

  • The Scholastic Book Orders are due Friday, November 22nd. This is for both November and December. Buying books is a great way to earn points for the classroom for us to get new books, especially for our theme, and resources. Please consider Scholastic.

  • There is no school on Monday, November 11th

  • Report Card Pick-Up is Tuesday, November 12th. This is a non attendance day for students. Conference requests went home recently. Please return your conference request as soon as possible. The 11:00 am hour is already full.

  • A reminder to only send water in your child’s thermos if they keep it in the classroom. Drinks other than water are not allowed in the room.
