Theme: Our theme this week is butterflies

  • Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and write down parts that were real and parts that were make believe

  • Read From Caterpillar to Butterfly and complete a KWL Chart (Know, Want to know, Learned)

  • Read Butterflies and sequence the life cycle with pictures and words

  • Read Life Cycles sequence the life cycle with pictures and words

  • Compare and contrast butterflies and moths.

Journals:

  • As part of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, we will make our own caterpillar out of paper plates and students will write and draw something the caterpillar can eat

  • Our phonics lessons this week will focus on short /e/ in the middle of cvc words, antonyms, and synonyms

Math:

  • Plus or Minus Game

  • Name Collections with Craft Sticks
  • Number Scrolls

  • Double Digits with Dice

Literacy/Literacy Centers:

  • Writing Center: Rainbow write our sight words and caterpillars and butterflies pick a prompt

  • Art Center: Make a symmetrical butterfly

  • Math Center: Time to the half hour

  • Listening Center: Listen to Where the Wild Things Are then draw a picture and write a sentence about the story

  • ABC Center: Roll a Sight Word

  • Read Around the Room: Students will find words that have short /e/ in the middle of cvc pattern words.

  • For our Journeys curriculum we will read a story called You Can Do It, Curious George! Our goals this week are Story Structure and Infer/Predict

  • Short /e/ and short /o/ cvc word sort

Social Studies:

  • Land and Water on Earth

  • Models and Maps

  • Character Education – More Ways to Manage Strong Feelings
