Theme: Our theme this week is Asian Pacific Heritage Month

  • We will read about how Cherry Trees came to be in China and make our own out of watercolors and tissue paper.

  • We will read about sand art from India and make our own.

  • A parent guest speaker will come in and talk to us about Korea.


  • We will focus on book responses this week; the funniest part, saddest part, and scariest part.

  • Students will write about what makes them special and what they are good at.

  • This week our phonics lessons will focus on inflected endings like /ing/, /s/, /es/, and /ed/.


  • Introduction to the quarter

  • Dice addition game

  • Time to the half hour

  • Tens and Ones with craft sticks (ex: I have _______ tens and ________ ones)

Literacy/Literacy Centers:

  • Writing Center: Rainbow write our sight words and a magic carpet ride (fantasy) pick a prompt.

  • Art Center: Q-tip art of a cherry tree.

  • Math Center: Tens and ones with craft sticks

  • Listening Center: Listen to Where the Wild Things Are then draw a picture of the characters.

  • ABC Center: Sequence of four events.

  • Read Around the Room: Students will find words that have short /i/ in the middle of cvc pattern words.

  • For our Journeys curriculum we will read a story called Something Special. Our goals this week are Cause/Effect and Visualize.

Social Studies:

  • Land and Water on Earth.

  • Scholastic Book Club Orders are due on Friday, May 31st. This is the last book order of the school year. Think about your summer reading!

  • No School Monday, May 27th for Memorial Day.

  • Let me know if you would like to volunteer your time in Room 104 during our literacy centers and math. I am looking for volunteers daily until 11:15 am. You can come for any or all of that time.

  • Wish List: glue sticks, gallon size ziplock bags, disinfectant wipes.

  • We will have two wonderful assemblies this week, one is Chinese drummers and the other is the third grade play.
