Theme: Our theme this week is Flowers

  • Read The Carrot Seed the complete a carrot growing sequence activity.

  • Sequence the growing of a plant and write about it.

  • Read Tops and Bottoms and do a related activity.

  • Learn about the parts of a flower and make a flower flipbook.

Journals:

  • We are starting different types of journals this week. From now on the students will have a writing folder where they can independently work during Journal time at their own pace.

  • April is poetry month and we will continue to focus on different types of poems – this week we will write a couplet and a Who am I? poem about either a vegetable or fruit.

  • This week our phonics lessons will focus on words that start with /x/ or /ex/, compound words, and abc order.

  • We will also focus on list writing, this week the students will write a list of things that grow from the ground.

 

Math:

  • Attribute Spinner Game.

  • Intro to the Number Grid.

  • Number Grid Search Game.

  • Measuring.

  • Math centers – measuring, time to hour matching, seed addition.

 

Literacy/Literacy Centers:

  • Writing Center: Rainbow write our sight words and Signs of Spring.

  • Art Center: Make a flower with all its parts.

  • Math Center: Time to the hour.

  • Listening Center: Listen to Gingerbread Man Loose in the School.

  • ABC Center: Rhyming words.

  • Read Around the Room: Students will find word that have an /x/ around the room and in books and write them down.

  • Making Words.

  • For our Journeys curriculum we will read a story called The Best of Friends. Our goals this week are Understanding Characters and Infer/Predict.

Social Studies:

  • Character Education – Same or Different.

  • Goods Around the World.

Reminders:

  • Friday, April 12th is an early dismissal. The students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on the south playground having eaten both breakfast and lunch at school.

  • Scholastic Book Orders are due to me or online by Tuesday, April 16th.

  • Wednesday, April 17th is Report Card Conferences, this is a non attendance day for students.The following are my available conference times: 1:40, 1:50, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:40, 2:50, 4:00, 4:10, 4:20, 4:30, 4:40, 4:50, 5:00, 5:10, and 5:30. Please turn in your request sheet as soon as possible or email me with your request.
