Sight Words: Review Week – no new words this week

Letter of the Week: Review Week – no new letter this week

Theme: Our theme this week is Seeds

  • The students will learn about the parts of a seed.

  • We will make our own greenhouses in class – inside our greenhouses will be a wet paper towel and a lima bean, we will tape them to the window and watch the seed grow.

  • The students will sequence the growth of a seed and write about it.

  • We will be doing some fun addition with seeds.

  • We will also be reading to some great non fiction books about seeds.

Journals:

  • Students will work complete their Weather Journals.

  • April is poetry month so we will start focusing on different types of poems – this week the students will write a spring poem and an adjective poem describing themselves.

  • This week our phonics lessons will focus syllables, /i/ as /y/, /e/ as /y/, and chopping out cvc words.

Math:

  • This entire week will focus on time to the hour.

  • The students will be introduced to the clock play with their own little analog clock.

  • We will also learn about odd and even numbers and do number stories on whiteboards.

Literacy/Literacy Centers:

  • Writing Center: Favorite part of Spring Break and April Fools.

  • Art Center: Draw a picture of something that they did over Spring Break.

  • Math Center: Explore.

  • Listening Center: Listen to Gingerbread Man Loose in the School.

  • ABC Center: Making our sight word with wikki sticks.

  • During teacher time I will be administering the third quarter assessment to the students.

  • Read From Peanuts to Peanut Butter.

  • Syllable sort.

Social Studies:

  • Character Education – Same or Different.

  • Goods Around the World.

Reminders:

  • Remember to keep checking the Things To Be Working On At Home link to the right.

  • April 12th is an early dismissal.

  • April 17th is Report Card Conferences, this is a non attendance day for students. Look for time request sheets to be sent home soon.

  • There will be no homework this week, but it is very important that each student continues to read 20 minutes a night, practice our sight words, and practice counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s to 100.

  • If you received a snack sheet the week before break – please remember to donate a snack tomorrow.

  • I hope everyone had a wonderful break, I know I did and am very excited to see everyone tomorrow morning.
