We have been very lucky in Room 104 to have an amazing Ray University experience so far. The teachers, Ms. Elizabeth and Ms. Ginger, have been wonderful. The students have learned so much and genuinely seem to be enjoying the experience; I know I am! Unfortunately the provider that was supposed to start yesterday and work with the class for three weeks has decided to no longer provide Ray University services. Due to the quick thinking and working of our administration and ancillary staff, the students in Room 104 will still be getting daily enrichment classes. Our spectacular P.E. and art teachers, Ms. Perez and Mrs. Melander, will be providing the enrichment. However, this is going to require a schedule change for this round of Ray U. The students will be getting their enrichment directly after breakfast and our literacy block will be moved to after lunch/brain boost. The students of 104 have really gotten our routine down and I know they will be successful in this temporary schedule change.

We will be participating in a Pre-K and Kindergarten Literacy Celebration on Wednesday, October 31, from 9:30-10:30. The children are encouraged to dress up in costume for the whole day. Please have your child come to school wearing their costume. The only rules are that the children may NOT wear masks of any kind or bring play weapons to school. Many kids are frightened by masks and weapons and the event is intended to be a fun experience, not a scary one. We are asking parents to assist with the set-up, during the event, and for a speedy clean up at the close of the event. Please let us know if you are available to assist us. We are asking for Kindergarten/Pre-K parent volunteers to be in the cafeteria from 8:45 – 11:15. We are also asking parents who wish, to send candy corn, candy pumpkins, and tootsie pops to school. There will be 170+ kids so please donate the above listed candy.

If you are interested in volunteering from 8:45 – 11:15 or purchasing candy corn, candy pumpkins, or tootsie pops please email me at rmaltz@cps.edu as soon as possible.

We will be passing out candy/healthy snacks to each other at the end of the day. If your child would like to pass out candy/snacks to their classmates, please bring enough candy/snacks for 24 kids. The children are allowed to bring their trick or treat bag/bucket to school so they can receive candy. All the candy that the kids receive will be taken home so that you can monitor their intake. If you have any questions please contact me at rmaltz@cps.edu.

Frightfully Yours,

The Kindergarten Team
